Highlights from our Christmas Carnival Craft Night

Mia & Momtaz from The Make Escape
Last week we got the sparkles out and invited you to join us for our Christmas Craft Night at Hackney Attic. We were so impressed by your creations and we hope everyone who came loves their handmade masterpieces.
Here's our highlights from the night...

CHRISTMAS KNITTING

We were joined be Madelaine and Dee who inspired us with their woolly wonders and showed newbie and old knitters who needed refreshing, how to knit.

BEADED CHRISTMAS WREATHS

Beading is a specialist skill and Jewellery Designer Louise Reed ran a fascinating session on how to make an intricate beaded decoration for your Christmas Tree.

CHRISTMAS CARDS

We were so excited to be joined by the amazing MYO London a new creative craft workshop space near London Bridge. They came with so many ideas for how to make your own Christmas cards.

TREE DECORATIONS

Finally, we love our sewing bee sessions here at The Make Escape so we gathered our most sparkliest fabrics and sequins to show you how to make tree-rific felt decorations.

To make our night complete we also had top seasonal tunage from our DJs The Spinning Yarns.

THANK YOU

Don't forget we also run private craft workshops and parties too so if you'd like us to organise an event for you get in touch.

Highlights: Spooktacular Halloween Craft Night

Natasha, Mia, Tone & Momtaz
Last month saw a packed Hackney Attic of costume clad creatives, ready for a night of creepy crafting at our free Halloween craft night.

There was a record number of newbie crocheters who got hooked on hooking, oodles of sparkly glitter for accessory making and we turned coffee jars into clever lanterns. As ever we were joined by The Spinning Yarns DJs behind the decks who treated Make Escapers to eerie sounds and terrifying tunes throughout the night.

The Spinning Yarns DJs aka Isabel, Dan and Alice
If you attended the shenanigans we'd love to see your pics, tag us on social media @TheMakeEscape (Twitter & Instagram). Here's our own pics from the night.
Thanks to everyone who came.

GLOW-IN-THE-DARK CROCHET GHOSTS WITH TONE WARD

When our in-house Crochet Queen Tone Ward suggested running a glow-in-the-dark session we were like wooooaaaah! Really?! Yup! it actually happened! Tone taught a record number of newbies who had never crocheted before to make crochet ghosts with glow sticks inside. Huge congratulations to everyone!

SPARKLY SPIDERS & OTHER EERIE ACCESSORIES WITH NATASHA STEER

Natasha Steer is the creative brains behind Creatabot where she regularly teaches community craft workshops in Kent. Her ethos is the same as ours to make crafts accessible to all and she always values the contribution craft and creativity plays in mental wellbeing. Natasha designed a fun glittery session making spooky but sparkly brooches of bats, spiders and skeletons.

PAPER SHADOW LANTERNS WITH MIA LITTLEWOLF

A London cabbie called Sian messaged us recently and said she had collected lots of glass coffee jars and would we like them? We accepted them instantly! We love receiving donations of craft supplies. Mia designed a clever paper shadow lantern workshop which was our most popular craft session of the night. Thanks Sian!

COLLAGE CORNER

And finally in our free-form collage corner there were some kooky cat masks being conjured up.

Well done crafters!

Highlights: #SummerOfLove Craft Night featuring Craftivist Collective and Mind

Summer wouldn't be summer without a festival so we invited Londoners to join us for a special Summer of Love festival themed craft night featuring mindful stitching with the Craftivist Collective, flower power crowns and some seriously groovy recycled earrings. Thanks to everyone who came; it was our busiest night of 2017 so far!
Here's a look at what we got up to...

Introducing the new Craftivists kit...

Craftivist Collective were our special guests for the night. They launched their new craftivism kit, supporting charity Mind. The kit has been created for you to stitch a message to your MP reminding them that they need to keep fighting for mental health support and provisions to be on a par with other health investments. The kits officially launch on September 4th and will cost £12. £7.20 from each kit goes to fund Mind and the vital services they provide, inside is everything you need, so purchase one then and become a crafting change-maker!

Mindful making: Flower Power

Guest tutor for the evening, Bryony Acketts from Blooming Barnets dazzled us with her giant paper flowers...one of which is bigger than her cat! Crafty lasses flocked to her workshop to make festive floral crowns, here's some of the fabulous creations made on the night.

Recycle and Wear

Mia held a session recycling magazines into jewellery. Everyone loved this project as it was so quick and simple, so gave a sense of craft satisfaction, which is what we like at The Make Escape. The hardest part was deciding which pictures to cut out; we were particularly impressed by the Trainspotting earrings!

Knit & Knatter

Madeline was on hand in our yarn corner, helping to develop your knitting and crochet projects. As ever we had a host of colourful yarns and wool available, and some newbie knitters trying their hand at yarn crafts for the first time.

Sarah Corbett, Founder of Craftivist Collective and volunteers with the Mind team
The lovely ladies from Mind were with us throughout the evening, encouraging you to hold your own #Crafternoon where you can craft with friends, family or colleagues while raising money for Mind. Find more about Crafternoon here.

A big thanks as always to The Spinning Yarns, our Resident DJs who provided the groovy soundtrack.

Momtaz with Make Escape first-timer Natasha who travelled all the way from Kent to come to our night

Don't forget to follow us on social media, we are @TheMakeEscape on Twitter and Instagram.
If you took photos of your wonderful makes share them on social media, tag us and use the hashtags #TheMakeEscape and #SummerOfLove

Our next FREE craft night at The Hackney Attic will be on Monday 30th October, a fright night special and the best Halloween craft night you'll find in London.
From 7:30pm as always, see you then!
