Highlights from our Treasure Island Craft Night

What a swashbuckling night! At April's Make Escape we had a parrot, treasure maps, pirate eye-patch making, oodles of treasure to make stuff with and three pirate VJs aka Chester Copperpot, Matt Overboard and Captain Morgan, as featured in the Londonist!
Being listed on this most finest of websites meant we had lots of new attendees. Yay!
Purple Claire kicked off the workshops with finger knitted necklaces, one of the easiest and fastest craft techniques we've ever seen and tried out!
It was a particular hit with visiting workshoppers the Shoreditch Sisters aka the local WI who can't normally come as their own meetings clash with our night. We hope to see them again in July when we have another 'five Tuesday' month!
In our popular knit & knatter corner run by Madelaine, two newbie men learnt how to knit. Craig, pictured here, recently went on a yarn shopping spree without trying out knitting, so now he knows what to do with his stash.
While Jo was very proud of her first ever cable knit in the form of a gorgeous woolly bangle.
Every pirate needs a patch so we also ran a 'make a patch' workshop from lovely soft faux leather and a comfy felt backing.
Modelled here beautifully by one of our workshoppers.
Elsewhere Becky demonstrated how to make paper beads from a surprise ssupply of origami paper that was mysteriously donated to us.
They went down very well in the collage corner.
Local jewellery designer Sheridan from Ever and Ava brought along a trunk of jewels to make gorgeous memory wire bracelets...
...like these stunning creations:
Meanwhile the pirates were hard at work ensuring we could get creative to salty sounds. The visuals some of which you can see here, consisted of dancing pirates, giant octopuses, fish and extracts of sea themed films like Muppet Treasure Island.
The set list included:
What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor?
Fish by Mr Scruff
Rock The Boat by Hues Corporation
Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys
Tabitha's Island by Me Me Me
£1 Fish by One Pound Fish Man
Liberty Ship by The La's
Under The Sea from The Little Mermaid
And here are the folk who put the Treasure Island craft night together - Becky, Momtaz, Heather and Suzi aka Team Make Escape.

THIS COMING MONTH, MAY, IS THE BIGGIE!!!!!!!
The Make Escape turns 1 on May 28th and we are organising the most spectacular craft night that has ever been hosted in the whole of Londinium!!

Mark it in your diaries now - details coming very soon!

All the images this month were taken by Greg McKinney aka Chester Copperpot

Highlights: Easter Extravaganza Craft Night

Our Easter Craft Night was cracking!
So many newbies came along including these two lovely local ladies who read about us in the local paper. They had NEVER knitted before but both took home finished egg cosies.
This pair had never knitted either.
Here they are in the early stages...
Check out what they had turned into by the end of the night:
They made the hair pieces too, but more on that later!
Our resident Knitting Guru Madelaine was the woman on hand who showed them and others how to turn a ball of yellow yarn into something cute! She's here every month with her team so fear not if you missed out, she's always happy to show you how to get your knit on.
Crochet queen (in fact all round textile super woman) Catherine Hirst led a special session on crochet.
She brought along some patterns from her books including pretty Spring flowers.

A proud new crocheter with her first ever chain.
Our Becky attempting her own crochet fleurs.
In the Maker's Market we were joined by Larissa who runs the Etsy London Meet-Up Group.
She dyes and makes her own yarns in gorgeous colours.
You can't celebrate Easter without a bonnet so we asked our favourite Milliner Katty Janneh to run an Easter accessories workshop.
Chick fascinators were the order of the evening....
Momtaz and Sheree modelling their new hair pieces.
You can see Sheree's creations properly here. Cheep cheep!
Nasreen also had a good hair day, She left with these beauties:
More amazing makes alert alert! These girls made Faberge Eggs & fascinators?
Did we just say Faberge Eggs? Oh yes!
Rich people eat your heart out, we made ours from polysterene eggs, PVA glue, toothpicks, glitter, sequins and gemstones.
In Collage Corner you could even make a basket to take your eggs home in.
Or make Easter Cards.
And no....boys were not forgotten! There's always something the lads will love at our Craft Night. As well as showing the girls how to make Easter Fascinators, Katty helped the boys make bow-ties.
Between them Aiyaz & Delwar made enough to have a market stall
As ever we also had crafters chilling out & doing their own thing. We totes fell in love with these AMAZING Bat themed gloves by Max
And good news about our DJs The Spinning Yarns...
They now have their own business cards which incidentally are the coolest cards ever.
There's no excuse not to book them for your next party now they are all official.

Missed our Easter Craft Night?
Don't worry, there's more making & taking next month.
We'll be back at the Hackney Attic on Tuesday April 30th for our Treasure Island Jewellery Making Special.

Hope to see you then xx
